York is internationally recognised as a cultural hotspot that combines its stunning heritage with contemporary events and festivals. So if you are planning a visit to York, the Illuminating York Festival is a must see event for people of all ages. Events are free.
The York food & drink festival was featured on the Cumbria House twitter feed a few days ago and we have already had people asking us for more information so thought it would be handy to update everyone on the times and events taking place.
The food & drink festival takes place every night from the 16th-25th of September in Parliment street. Many of the stalls stay open till 7.00pm and if your a fan of Yorkshire real ale the Fountain Café and beer tent stay open until 9.00pm. Activities will differ each night and will include dancers, choirs, bands, gardeners and chutney makers!
Found this great video from Visit York on youtube. It really shows York in all its glory, from the beautiful sites and history to new attractions and days out.
Hope you enjoy it
Over a million people a year take a walk through 1900 years of history on York’s city walls. Built in Roman times, they’ve been added to and rebuilt over time and now have parts from across the centuries. Originally built as defences, the focus is now on conservation.
Opening times
Open every day from 8am to dusk except when there is a risk of ice resulting in slippery conditions.
Closed on Christmas day.
Here are just a few of the fantastic attractions you can enjoy in the City of York. For more attractions and upcoming events feel free to browse our blogs or visit the Official York Tourism Partnership website for more information about what’s on in York.
